This role offers the chance to shape the risk pricing strategy of a major UK insurer for commercial motor products. As Lead Risk Pricing Analyst, you’ll take ownership of high‑impact pricing initiatives, applying advanced statistical and actuarial techniques to enhance business performance. You’ll also play a key part in developing the organisation’s analytical capability by guiding and supporting a team of analysts.
Your insights will influence decisions at senior levels, helping to steer the direction of risk pricing strategy and ensuring sustainable growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor, develop and support Pricing Analysts and Senior Analysts, building technical capability and professional growth within the team.
- Provide direction in best‑practice pricing methodology, and analytical standards.
Model Development & Technical Delivery
- Build, validate and oversee predictive models, including machine‑learning approaches.
- Create and maintain reliable datasets for modelling, pricing, and performance monitoring.
- Manage the development, calibration, and implementation of pricing models, ensuring they are robust and production‑ready.
Pricing Strategy & Execution
- Conduct detailed pricing analyses and prepare clear, actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Oversee rate deployment activity—including instructions for rate changes and ensuring accuracy in the rating engine/live environment.
- Combine MI, modelling outputs, and business objectives to form a rounded view of pricing performance and future outlook.
- Lead work across the full pricing lifecycle, from strategy through execution, ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard.
Senior Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent the pricing function in key meetings, deputising for pricing leadership when required.
- Influence thinking at senior levels by articulating analytical findings in a way that drives informed decision‑making.
Skills & Experience Required
- Around 4–5 years’ experience in insurance pricing with a proven record of generating commercial insight.
- Strong programming skills, particularly with tools such as SAS, SQL or Databricks, and confidence handling large, complex datasets.
- Experience with industry‑standard pricing and modelling tools such as Emblem and Radar.
- Proficiency in predictive modelling approaches, such as GLMs, logistic regression, and gradient‑boosting techniques.
- Ability to break down complex problems and deliver clear, practical analytical solutions.
- Track record of coaching and developing junior analysts.
- Skilled at influencing stakeholders, including senior leaders, to support strategic decisions.
- Able to convey complex statistical concepts in a clear, accessible way for non‑technical audiences.
