Case Study: Senior Data Scientist

Having successfully placed a number of Pricing professionals for a leading UK insurer, we were asked to assist with the recruitment for their established centralised Data Science department.

This assignment had a fairly broad set of requirements. Whilst they were looking for core Data Science skills and experience – as a minimum, Machine Learning modelling in Python, with experience of other approaches and solutions, such as Deep Learning/ NN’s, NLP, GenAI/LLM’s and Image Recognition being a bonus – they were also very open as to where these skills had been applied. Insurance sector experience was preferred, but open as to which business areas projects had been delivered in, they were keen to consider candidates with experience in Pricing, Claims, Fraud, Policy Documentation, Underwriting, Customer Services and/or Operations.

Given the interesting nature of the work on the team, and the ability to share this with perspective candidates aligned to their own requirements, and the broader remit, we were able to present seven qualified candidates over a period of three weeks. Of these, five were invited to interview, giving a CV submission to interview ratio of 1.4 to 1, demonstrating the quality and suitability of candidates delivered.

All candidates were fully supported and engaged throughout the interview process, with the successful candidate also throughout the offer and acceptance stages – which in this case was helped significantly by the high level of interest from the candidate, with the role aligning incredibly well to the kind of environment they wished to work in, and the flexibility offered by the client with regards to working arrangements.
